JRT update announcement misplaced
« on: September 06, 2015, 11:46:04 am »
Hi all,
Junkware Removal Tool is used to remove the junks similar to Adwcleaner.
So, it will be best suiting to the 'Security Software' subforum instead of 'General Software'.

That's correct. There's a post somewhere about it.
At least I thought there was. I'm on my phone so I will check once I get home and add that if it not anywhere found.

Right here it is:

Hello All:

If the future Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) postings should now be re-classified to the Security Software subforum (I do not disagree) then, do these warrant moving?

1.) AdwCleaner (Presently in Utilities)
2.) Tails (Presently in Utilities)
3.) Tor Browser (Presently in General Software)
4.) Farbar Recovery Scan Tool - FRST (Presently in Utilities)

In a perfect world, these would have been much easier to pigeon-hole from the very beginning. Understandably though they were not. Maybe these defining moments will serve to assist any possible color-coding schemes (just as before) for the calendar itself. Your call folks.

Thank you.

Hello Pete,

1. AdwCleaner is a program that searches for and deletes Adware, Toolbars, Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP), and browser Hijackers from your computer.

2. Tails is a security-focused Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at preserving privacy and anonymity.

3. Tor Browser is free software and an open network that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.

4. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, or FRST, is a portable application designed to run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 in normal or safe mode to diagnose malware issues. It is also possible to run FRST in the Windows Recovery Environment in order to diagnose and fix boot issues.

These are all direct quotes from the official websites and I do agree with what you are saying. Let me get with the other admins and I will post them accordingly and thank you for your feedback.

Regards,
Tim
