Hehehe, sorry I have been away... I got a little carried away with the new features ;).  The Cuckoo Sandbox is pretty much ready, although we will want to refine and tweak it a little in the next few days.  There is still a little more work to do on the KMD, but it is getting there.  I might even take a little break for a few days before finishing that up.

Here is the latest version with the Cuckoo Sandbox integration.  So far I have not been able to get it to work with XP (and it may not ever), but it seems to work great with everything else.  So if you are running XP, there is no reason to upgrade to this version.

This version is all about the Cuckoo Sandbox / Remote Sandbox.  So either drag and drop a file, or have VS block a file, then choose “Sandbox”, then “Cuckoo”.

If you want to watch the analysis in real-time, in a remote desktop session, just make sure you check the option “Watch Cuckoo Sandbox analysis in a Remote Desktop session in real-time”, before you click the “Cuckoo” button. I was going to have it enabled by default, but I did not want to scare one of our other users that have no idea about the RDP features ;).  Besides, the more bandwidth (among other things) we can conserve, the better.

Version 2.77 Beta: http://www.voodooshield.com/Download/beta/InstallVoodooShieldbeta.exe

I have not tested the Cuckoo server other than just running internal tests, but I think it will do quite well.  It estimates that it can perform 13,000+ analysis per day (or 525+ per hour), but I guess we will see ;).  For now I limited the RDP sessions to 1 every 5 minutes, just to make sure I did not overlook something... and we end up crashing the server ;).  There are a lot of "moving parts" between VS and the Cuckoo Sandbox, and a lot of things that could potentially go wrong, but I think everything is pretty darn stable at this point.  Hopefully there will not be any firewall issues, but I think since it is just a standard RDP, it should be fine.

Hopefully I will be able to catch up on the posts I have missed this weekend... then after these last few features are finished, hopefully things will go back to normal.  Thank you, talk to you soon!

VoodooShield 3.00 Beta Release

Hello, I'm glad to announce that the first 3.00 Beta version of VoodooShield is ready and available for downloading and trying.
You can download it from https://voodooshield.com/Download/beta3/InstallVoodooShield.exe
It's recommended to turn off or uninstall any old versions of VoodooShield prior to installing the new version.

System requirements:

Windows Vista sp1 and above (XP wasn't tested!)
    .NET 2.0/3.5 and above

What's new in VoodooShield 3.00 Beta:

AppCertDlls mechanism was replaced by Kernel mini-filter driver + service
Improved logic of the new process handling. Fixed many bugs there, especially in handling command lines and approving by parent process
    Version update flow was changed
Installer improvement - no more internet connection is needed for downloading VC++ runtime and .NET.
No any additional .NET installation is required
    Bugs were fixed

There are still some features missing in the first beta, but they will be implemented in future versions.
I will be available for the next 3-4 days for your questions or comments regarding 3.00 Beta functionality/issues/bugs and will be happy to get some feedback.

Have a good day,
Vladimir

VoodooShield 3.01 Beta Release
Accidentally the 3.00 version didn't contain some last minute fixes. They were added to this one. As well some of the bugs that were reported also fixed in this version
You can download it from https://voodooshield.com/Download/beta3/InstallVoodooShield.exe
It's recommended to turn off or uninstall any old versions of VoodooShield prior to installing the new version.
Due to auto-update bug, version 3.00 could not be autoupdated to higher version! So it is recommended to update manually to version 3.01. The next releases will be updated automatically

System requirements:

Windows Vista sp1 and above (XP wasn't tested!)
    .NET 2.0/3.5 and above

What's new in VoodooShield 3.01 Beta:

Fixes that were missed in 3.00 - Sandboxie fix, disable Custom Folders
    nircmd.exe fix
    chrome update bug fix
probably registration fields fix (I'm not sure, because never was able to reproduce it)
    Autoupdate version fix

There are still some features missing in the first beta, but they will be implemented in future versions.
I will be available for the next 2-3 days for your questions or comments regarding 3.01 Beta functionality/issues/bugs and will be happy to get some feedback.

Have a good day,
Vladimir

Release notes for Beta v3.0.2:

- Updated link

- Fixed reported bypasses ;)

- Fixed auto-quarantine issue

- Fixed sending script/registry/command line files to blacklist scan (wrong hash was sent before)

- Added wildcard ability to command line (* - any chars, ? – any single char). User is responsible to edit wildcard manually. There are still some questions on wildcard feature (i.e. the order of wildcard checks and so on), so need to get a feedback from the users.

- Rewritten command line handler, behavior now:

o If command is like cmd.exe /c script.bat , then it handled as process script.bat

o If command is like cmd.exe /c ping … (any cmd), then it handled as command line.

o Only command line part is added to command line list (without cmd.exe or something like that)

- Improtant! Due to command line fixes it is recommended to delete all previous command lines from the Command Line tab!

Here is the final to do list for VS 3.0

- This hardly ever happens, but there is a path is denied error. It will be a super easy fix (the code is already written), I just have to be able to reproduce this error first.

- Cloud command lines feature… this will be easy, but there is a lot of busy work

- Activate the realtime scanning of processes on VS’s startup. It is already in the code and ready to go, but it is not activated… I wanted to fix all of the other bugs first.

- Cuckoo Sandbox RDP for Windows 10… Can someone who is running Windows 10 confirm either way if the Cuckoo Sandbox is working for them or not? If it is not working, I think I know what is wrong. Please let me know!

- Mini prompt location… sometimes it is too far to the left. This is an easy fix.

- Sign with SHA 256… I just need to find my password for the signature. I put it somewhere so I would not lose it, but guess what, I lost it ;).

If there is anything that I am missing, please let me know. I will catch up on the posts I missed asap! Thank you!

Here is VS 3.16 beta This should fix most of the Windows 10 issues. I have not heard back from Vlad yet (he has a lot going on at the moment), but I think this is the way he would have fixed it, but I guess we will see for sure soon ;).

Hey everyone, here is the latest version, and here is what was changed.

- Added even more logging to see if we can isolate the freeze issue. I think there were a couple of different things causing the freeze issue, mainly because various users would describe the bug a little different. Also, VS used to freeze on my every 2 or so days, now it is every 10-15 days. Either way, we have to be getting close to figuring it out.
- The bug that Umbra found in Custom Folders should be fixed, if not, please let me know.
- I also just last night discovered a bug... I think someone mentioned this to me before, I was not sure what they meant. Anyway, for example, if you are running VS on AutoPilot and you download something with Internet Explorer, then try to run the file, VS will think it is an exploit (even though it is not). Anyway, that is fixed now, and AutoPilot should be even more user-friendly now. I do not think there is a chance that fixing this bug opened up a security hole, but if something is not quite right, please let me know!

Thank you guys!

Here is VS 4.0 BETA! Once again, sorry it took so long… if you knew what all was involved, you would completely understand. There are still a few small things that I need to adjust in the next day or two, but they are just very small issues.

The only thing I am worried about is the registration. I have tested it on my end with several computers, and it seems to be working correctly, but who knows what can happen, with firewalls and what not.
BTW, some of the file / process info in Settings / Whitelist and User Log that appears to be missing, is not really missing. I will explain this in further detail later if you guys need me to, but I think you guys will know what I mean.

If you have any problems, please let me know. Otherwise, I am going to step away from the computer for as long as possible, and I will catch up on posts and pms I missed asap, thank you guys[/b]!

More info from MalewareTips post and forum
Quote
As far as the rules are concerned… this is the reason why they are vital.

Traditional application whitelisting utilities, for the most part, have an if then statement similar to this pseudocode…
If the blockedProcess is not on the whitelist then

blockProcess = true
End If

VS has around 50 or so (I have not counted) hard coded rules that I have written over the last few years, that automatically allow safe items that should not be blocked… here is a pseudocode example…

If VoodooShield is on AutoPilot and the blockedProcessParent is on the whitelist

If the blockedProcess VoodooAi < .3333 and the blockedProcess BlacklistScan < 3 then

blockProcess = false

End If

End If

The reason these items should not be blocked is simple… the average user should not be burdened with dangerous and unnecessary affirmative user prompts. Not only are user prompts annoying, but they are dangerous. Your security software can only cry wolf so many times before the end user automatically clicks the allow button.

VS does a great job of auto allowing safe items using its hard coded rules, but we need to do even more to reduce dangerous affirmative user prompts. User prompts do not bother security enthusiasts or professionals… but believe me, the average end user cannot stand them. I swear, most average users will uninstall VS, or any deny by default software, after only a couple of blocks.

There is only one way that deny by default solutions will ever reach the masses. Believe me, I know, I have worked directly with thousands of end users since 1999, and I know their squeal point. I see them in person, or hear them on the phone when they say “VoodooShield blocked…” and they sound incredibly frustrated.

So the whole point of the rules wizard is to take these rules one step further, and allow as many safe items as possible for the end user. The really cool thing is that we can add all of the rules to the default ruleset, so it will be completely seamless to the end user. And if the end user wants to choose one of the other community rulesets… perhaps one that is more aggressive, then they can do that as well.

As I was saying, this is just the first implementation of the new rules wizard feature. Even in its current state, it is highly flexible and granular, but we will develop this feature even more over the next few months and add several more parameters, so it will become even more flexible.

Hi Daniel,

Great! I've got it installed without any real problems...I've been running it for alittle over a week. It froze once and one time I rebooted and VS asked if I wanted to purchase it now and I just re-entered my registration info password again. So far running good.
 :)

It's super great to have you back here Dan B. I'm looking forward to your presence here! :)

I am getting VS popup updates when I start up Windows but I am not getting this update. VS just blanks out...disappears and does not come back on, I guess I'll try a clean install and reboot. Very strange.. I came on COU and see that there is an update to VS 415,exe. Is this Beta? When I click the on the popups Voodooshield never comes back on?

EDITED: I stopped VS in Task Manager and installed VS 415.exe. All is working now! ;D

Got the same. Was notified 3.59b is no longer supported and if I wanted to continue with VS I had to update. The latest beta only worked for a very short time so I went back to3.59 and now I can't use it. 4.15 is now re-installed. We shall see. One of a few problems I had was if I wanted to use it in an account other then admin I had to start it in that account with admin privileges and it would still crash occasionally.

I know this has been mentioned before, somewhere....

But, the tray icon still doesn't stick...

I just did an over the top install, and as you can see after the reboot, i.e. screenshots  #'d 02 and 03 show the icon had moved, and I moved it back to where it should be located.

I think this is normal if you reinstall Voodooo!
New installation removes setting responsible for position of the icon.
